disturbing

There is nothing more disturbing than coming home to find small gray feathers strewn across the kitchen floor. Immediately recognizing that a small fight and the ultimate snuffing out of a precious, innocent bird's life has occured while you toiled away at work. And then upon close inspection of your apartment, you are unable to locate the missing carcass, wondering if your cat has the strength and dexterity to hide it under the pillows or worse, between the matresses. Is there a limit as to where I shouldn't have to look??

Like I said before, but now I mean it, Ruby is getting a cowbell. The death toll is fast approaching at least 10 birds and spring has only started to sprung.
